Interview With Author Nijiama Smalls
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Nijiama Smalls and I am an author, writer, and mental health advocate. I believe in women, particularly the most marginalized of our society and the power that lies within us. I have written 4 books and two journals focused on healing and building emotional intelligence.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Bad Girl’s Guide to Discovering Purpose is written for women from all walks of life who desire to live with meaning and intention. My journey to discovering purpose was long and difficult, and there were many moments when I doubted it would ever happen for me. I chased myths and misleading ideas about purpose—at times even believing I wasn’t worthy of living a purpose-filled life. That painful realization pushed me to seek the truth for myself.
This book is a guide for women ready to embrace lives of meaning, no matter their past mistakes. It opens their eyes to their unique gifts, experiences, and strengths—and reveals how these can be used in service of something greater.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My unusual writing habit is that I write while I’m showering. That is where the noise is cancelled, and I have the most clarity.
