Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am born in Varna, Bulgaria. I live in the capital – Sofia, teaching in the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts, making TV reality programs and – yes, write books. My first book, “Notes from Hell”, was published in 2009. This month I finally presented to the world the second one – sort of LGBT magical realism adventure love story.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
It’s called “Don’t Tell Mama”. It was inspired by a story of a gay guy who presented his roommate as his girlfriend before his family. It was supposed to be a small book, 100-105 pages. Well, now it’s an epic story within eight countries on 600 pages. It’s really far away from the usual “gay-themed” books, and I hope it would be interesting for any reader.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always listen music. It inspires me. For example if I am writing about a certain country I am listening to its music.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
They are so, so many, from all around the world. I like to taste different genres. I don’t like romance, but I adore horror, anti-utopia, comedy and fantasy. But in general if the story is good I don’t care about the genre.
What are you working on now?
All my time is dedicated to “Don’t Tell Mama”. Don’t be mislead by the title – tell about it to everyone. ๐
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Just connecting to readers. I Like Goodreads.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write a book that you would want read every several years.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t THINK about the book you are writing, just FEEL it.
What are you reading now?
“Atlas Shrugged” by Ann Rand and “La ciociara” by Alberto Moravia.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a lot of books in my mind. I am working on a sort of continuation of “Don’t Tell Mama” – a collections of short narratives, titled “Don’t Tell Mama: Dark Stories”, and then an anti-utopia novel, “Tales of Fear”.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“The Wheel of Time” series – I know it’s a cheat, but that’s a lot of reading.
“The Count of Monte Cristo” – I would read it in solitary
Some Woodhouse book.
“Time of Violence” by Anton Donchev. It’s sad. I like sad books. ๐
