Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a technical writer, with decades of IT experience, turned fiction writer.
Born in the Soviet Union, during the Cold War, and now living in Canada, I have been producing volumes of high-quality technical documentation throughout my 25-year long software developer career. Writing technical stuff seemed mighty boring, and I started writing fiction on the side. Now, I have completely switched over to fiction.
In total, over the last four years, I have written four novels, a novella, and several short stories, times two, since I translate all of them to Russian.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is Evil, 100%. I started working on it as soon as I had heard vague rumors about COVID-19, although I must confess that I had initially dismissed them as “another bird flu scare”.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Perhaps the fact that I just type away most of the time, since ideas just appear at the tips of my fingers, may be considered unusual? I do, however, at times, plan ahead and jot the points for a future chapter that I fill out later.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ray Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles come to mind.
What are you working on now?
I split my writing time 50/50 between completing the 2nd book of The God’s Bracelet trilogy, Double Hazard, and my latest novel Evil, 100%. Also, I work with an editor on the 1st book, Finding Ishtar, and with a graphic artist on the chapter illustrations for all three of them.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Being a new author, I have just discovered Awesome Gang for the first time in my life, after reading a blog post on Kindlepreneur. So far, I have only really published two books. They are collections of poems from The God’s Bracelet trilogy, on Smashwords and Inkitt.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be original! Nothing inspires a reader more than original ideas, and nothing turns them off more than cliches, plagiarism, or excessive pathos.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up.
What are you reading now?
Nothing, unfortunately. My time is totally spent on writing, editing, and cooperating with the editor and graphic artist.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am planning a novel about the feelings of love and hate towards mundane things and actions, experienced by a person with very vague idea of who they are.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
It will be everything written by Lovecraft. I always wanted but never had time to sit down and read his books.
