About Notes From The Hero’s Journey: Poetic Fragments Of An Internal Odyssey by Al Davis
A book of poetic breadcrumbs, for you to follow.
What do you do when you hit a brick wall? When the answers to the questions you’ve been asking all your life lead nowhere?
And it’s become obvious that this is the way they will continue to be uanswered. And there is no hope in continuing in this direction.
Years ago, I was walking on the top of Nob Hill in San Francisco. I passed an older, wealthy-looking couple getting out of a limo. They were loudly arguing about something which was apparently very important to them.
In an instant, I glimpsed the deeper reality of their lives. I remember seeing them awash in monetary wealth, and the pettiness of their interchange. I had the thought, “My God, is that the best I can hope for?” The question was rhetorical, and the only answer could have been “Yes”.
The answers to my deepest questions continued, unanswered. Questions like, “What is the purpose and meaning of existence? Of my life? Of life on this planet?”, questions I’d had since childhood.
But I was fortunate. I was able to connect with a different influence. It is one that has, over many years, answered—deeply and truly—many of the questions I once had. It’s also pointed the way to yet more and deeper understanding of those questions, as well as others.
The poems in this volume are about my internal experience of this quest. If my poems seem cryptic, I am guilty as charged. It is intentional. For the literal mind, as I discovered, can only understand so much. It’s fortunate that we have other parts of ourselves that have far greater cognitive abilities. It is to those parts I speak.

Author Bio:
Despite having had a number of challenges as a child, I survived, overcame, and prospered.
And not just a survived, I went on to found several successful businesses, earn three black belts in karate, travel all over the USA and Europe, learn a couple of foreign languages, learn and be successful in online marketing, and become a real estate investor, among other achievements. And I’m a heck of a cook, although these days almost everything I eat is unprocessed plant based.
I am the author of a number of books, waiting in the queue to be published. In my first book, The Diet Fallacies, I describe my struggle with food, how I overcame food addiction, and how I’ve maintained this weight over the last 35+ years.
I have taken a new direction, though: all my life I’ve been writing poetry, and it is now time to start publishing it. Beginning with “Notes from the Hero’s Journey”, I will be releasing a number of books of original poetry, all addressed to the questions of the purpose of life, both our individual lives and that of life on this planet. If you have questions–deep, inner sincere questions– and a longing for the unknown, please check out my work.
What eventually will be a series begins with “Notes from the Hero’s Journey”.
