About Old Mother West Wind Tales by Muz Murray
The Bedtime Book that Begs to be Read Aloud
Old Mother West Wind Tales is an utterly delightful updated version of the century-old classic by Thornton W. Burgess, completely rewritten in a poetically lyrical and easier-to-read-aloud version for today’s parents.
Children delight in the mischievous antics of the animals and birds of the Grassy Green Meadow, the Pollywig Pool, and the Windily Wood. All the old favourites–Johnny Chuck, fly-gobbling Grandfather Frog, Jimmy Skunk, and sly Reddy Fox—are joined in their adventures by new characters such as Billy Brock, little Zoëy Otter and her brother Otty, Sneezle the Weasel, and Toby Cockles the Terrapin.
And fun facts about the real-life habits of the animals portrayed in the stories are found after each chapter, offering educational insights about wildlife.
Each chapter is a separate story, only ten, fifteen, or twenty minutes long; being ideal for bedtime reading suitable for 3-year-olds and upwards, and for early readers from 6 -12 years.
These wholesome stories encourage friendship, kindness, heroism, justice, and above all, a love of nature and respect for creatures of the wild. They also cover vanity, pride, wilfulness, mischievous pranks, bullying, boasting, and karmic comeback. The tales have gentle moral pointers that show the consequences of certain actions, such as, “Whatever you do, will come back on you.”

Author Bio:
I began my career as a surrealist painter (when I lived on the Costa Brava and became friendly with Salvador Dali); then followed on as set and costume designer for theatre and film, actor, nightclub singer, elephant trainer, and a world-traveling adventurer hitch-hiking all down Africa, and overland to India, where I spent 3 years as a wandering monk studying meditation and mantra, and ending up as a yoga teacher and spiritual mentor. Now retired and living as a virtual hermit in the hills of southern Portugal, with a thousand geckos as my only companions.
