About Opening Your Eyes: Becoming Self-Aware as a Young Adult in the 21st Century by Amanda E. Bjerke
Who am I? What is my purpose? How did I get to this point in my life?
If you have ever asked yourself these questions, you are not alone. Connecting the dots between who you were and who you want to be is difficult, and many young adults especially struggle with this as they enter adulthood. With the prevalence of social media in the 21st century, comparison and idealization can make it even more challenging to answer these questions. Through sharing her own story, Amanda E. Bjerke describes her journey to becoming more self-aware as a 20-something-year-old with the lessons she’s learned from reflecting on important events from her past.
At the end of each chapter, there are “Questions to Contemplate” that you can use as journal prompts or for mediation and reflection to build your own practice of self-awareness. Self-awareness is a skill and ongoing process that you practice to be more conscious of your strengths, weaknesses, values, and overall presence. At the end of each chapter, there are questions to help you reflect upon your own experiences and practice self-awareness. This allows you to further understand how your unique human experience impacts the way you interact with and perceive the world around you.

Author Bio:
Amanda E. Bjerke is a lifelong learner, teacher, and curious adventurer. She was born and grew up in a small town near Minneapolis, Minnesota and has since lived in Salzburg, Austria and Freiburg, Germany. When Amanda was a child, she was diagnosed with Ocular Albinism, an eye disorder that significantly impacts her vision. Her unique perception and passion for learning languages has guided her interest in communicating with people from different cultures and backgrounds about their individual human experiences.
As a 20-something-year-old, she is on a journey to understanding her identity after graduating college while figuring out this whole “adulting” thing. She understands that there is so much to learn and experience in this life, and she doesn’t want to waste a minute of it.
When not writing or thinking, Amanda enjoys being surrounded by trees and the natural world, reading philosophy and science-fiction, following her curiosity down the rabbit hole of YouTube, and dancing to music when no one is watching. She also spends her time connecting with her body and mind through yoga and meditation. “Opening Your Eyes: Becoming Self-Aware as a Young Adult in the 21st Century” is her first book.
