Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been a professional captain specialized in ocean racing and expedition sailing. Through 15 years of my sailing career, I’ve visited over 100 countries on some of the most amazing sailing yachts in the world.
I’ve also participated (as a captain of the expedition yacht) in the production of the extraordinary documentary film – ‘Aquarela’, 2018, dir. Victor Kossakovsky.
Sailing Adventures of Pazzo Pirata, Expecting the Unexpected is my first book. However, it’s the beginning of the series, so hopefully, soon you will be able to read a lot more ๐
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Sailing Adventures of Pazzo Pirata, Expecting the Unexpected
It’s based on the true story of my one-year long travel of chasing the dream to become a professional sailor. It was very adventurous and eventful period of my life and I’ve wanted to share this story for a long time.
Publishing it this book is a part of the larger project. I aim to take part in Vendee Globe single-handed around the world race, and I hope that this book is going to take me there ๐
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well, I just need to wait for the right timing, once it goes it goes… It took me nearly 5 years to wait for this one, and then 3 months of doing nothing else than writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Czech authors, such as Bohumil Hrabal, Milan Kundera, Ota Pavel. Their stories are very light and funny, but deep at the same time. I was aiming for the same direction.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the second part of Sailing Adventures of Pazzo Pirata. It will be dedicated to 5 years dedicated to ocean racing and thousands of adventures that came along with it.
Some of the adventures were a bit off the ocean racing, such as being hired by special forces (as a sailor) to help them to kidnap the wife of the president of Yemen ๐
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To be honest, I’m still trying to figure out what’s best ๐
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up! Your story is your contribution to the rest of the world, make it as good as you can!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To quit smoking.
What are you reading now?
Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco
What’s next for you as a writer?
Right now I really need to go back to sea. 3 months away from it is as much as I can take. Once I recharge my batteries with the ocean, I will continue to work on the second part of my series.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
How I Came to Know Fish by Ota Pavel
Traditional Boatbuilding Manual
Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl
