Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an author of cozy mysteries with a heroine who can be a bit inappropriate… or at least unfiltered.
Two books so far in my series, Betty Snickerdoodle Mysteries. The third is drafted and in the editing phase. It should be published in early 2020.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My next book is called “Bake It Like Betty.” The inspiration is a baking contest taking place at the BettyCon convention at Betty Snickerdoodle’s Christmas Inn & Ranch. The contest itself was inspired by the Great British Baking Show. And, naturally, there may be murder at BettyCon!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am not sure it’s rare, but I do find that some of my best plot ideas come from dreams. Also, I do some of my best thinking when not writing — when on a bike or in the shower.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
MC Beaton and Janet Evanovich, especially.
What are you working on now?
I’m plotting out my fourth book while my third one gets its editorial review. I’m thinking something to do with weddings or goats!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love using newsletters to promote my book to readers who’ve signed up to learn about new books. And I like connecting with readers via Facebook and via my own newsletter.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stick with it. It can be daunting to complete your first book, but you’ll gain confidence with each one.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice about writing that I’ve heard is that all advice is just ideas and guidelines. There are no rules, really, so don’t get too hung up on things like never using an adverb ๐
What are you reading now?
A cozy mystery by Cee Cee James.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m hoping I’ll be able to write and publish faster in the future. Having fans is a gift, and I want to make the ones I have happy!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Boy oh boy that’s hard. I’d probably start with some really long ones.
