Interview With Author R. W.
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a certified aromatherapist and a person living with a disability due to injuries. I am also an older alternative author and writer. My background is in business, consulting, and problem solving, but when COVID-19 hit, everything changed. I am a mother of three adult children and grandmother to four grandchildren. When the shutdowns occurred, my life took a drastic turn—my next-door neighbor’s condo caught fire, forcing us to leave our home. During this difficult time, my daughter developed PTSD, and we had to leave to be with family. Before COVID-19, I had begun studying essential oils because I was using them like many others. I noticed that when I was with my mother, using what I knew at her home and outdoors seemed to bring comfort, which sparked my curiosity about the power behind these oils. This led me to seek out a school where I could deepen my understanding of natural healing. With hope and excitement, I connected with a particular school and eagerly began my studies. The journey was both challenging and inspiring—learning about what lies behind these oils was sometimes scary but ultimately exhilarating. I especially loved the case studies; doing this virtually was new to me, but it became my favorite part of the experience. It was also wonderfully relaxing. After completing my studies, I was motivated to help others learn how to care for themselves using natural methods. I created a series of resources—two ebooks and one audiobook—each filled with humor, music, and the personality of each plant. As a senior, I am grateful every day for the opportunity to learn about the incredible gift of creation and healing, and I am passionate about sharing this knowledge to help others find comfort and wellness.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Journey Through Citrus: Unveiling an Untold Story
During my studies, I discovered citrus essential oils—something I hadn’t known existed. As I reflected on the many citrus fruits these oils originate from and their health benefits, I realized how incorporating them into daily life can be a true game changer.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
First, I always call my mom, who gently offers interesting questions to explore about essential oils and their components. What excites me most is when she shares stories of my ancestors, who were natural healers, and what she remembers from those times—that’s how my creativity begins. A simple question can open up a world of knowledge and research, leading me to discover everything about the oils: where they come from and how they are created. I aim to make this journey enjoyable to read or listen to and easy to learn from. I often play jazz music, diffuse the essential oils into the air, and visualize the story and journey I want to share with you. I take each chapter, send it to my trusted friend for feedback on tone and readability, and also share it with my mom, who inspired me from the start. Being in her 80s, I truly value her opinion and guidance.
