About Raise Your Hand: A Millennial’s Guide to Courageously Ask For Help and Defeat The Weeds of Regret with Personal Power by Robert Belle
Millennials experience burnout a lot. That’s largely because it’s not in their nature to seek out support. Worse, when they’re overwhelmed, many of them feel inclined to tackle their problems alone. That’s why transformational speaker, mentor, and coach Robert A. Belle wrote Raise Your Hand, a frank, compassionate guide that empowers young professionals, showing them why it’s important to ask for help when they’re stressed and exactly how to do it.
In this book, Belle explains that doing everything by yourself doesn’t make you look competent to your peers; it just bogs you down, eventually leading to exhaustion. Belle shows readers exactly when, where, and how to find help. And along the way, he cites recent scientific studies, personal life experiences, and real-world conversations he’s had with his millennial coaching clients.
Raise Your Hand doesn’t provide generic career development advice, the kind that touts the importance of exercising, journaling, or meditating to avoid burnout. Instead, the book addresses the specific obstacles millennials face when they’re stressed—especially post-pandemic, with the introduction of remote and hybrid working models. And it equips readers with detailed methods for shattering stress, including how to identify your emotions, communicate your needs, and find the correct help.
This is not just another “do this, do that and you’ll feel better” type of self-guided instruction manual, but instead, an insightful and perceptive look at the reasons why people are afraid or reluctant to ask for help. And what we can do to move past our regrets of prior behaviors and move forward to making better decisions. A detailed and thought-provoking journey on what prevents us from asking for assistance from others, taking into account both personal and professional experiences we may (and probably will) find ourselves in the midst of as we go through life.
Belle is no stranger to burnout himself. Having experienced the tragic loss of his father at fourteen, he long felt overwhelming pressure to single-handedly support his mother and sister. Over the years, however, Belle learned to embrace a balance of selflessness and self-care, a balance that has helped him achieve life light, intentional and without guilt, and is honored to share with others through this book.
