Interview With Author Randall Snyder
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a 22+ year law enforcement officer, who decided to write after retirement. I started with my grand-father’s story, then went to mine, and now I am working on both true-crime novels and YA romantic/ Fantasy with my daughter. I have published 3 books, with three more in the works.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Hellbent Anthology is a collection of journals from my great-grandfather and his friends on a road trip from Ohio to California in 1923. I was inspired to write it because he wanted to publish it before he passed in 1983, and when my mother passed in 2021, I decided I didn’t want the family history to disappear.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend not pre-plan much of the writing, but let it just flow, and then clean it up in editing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Douglas Adams, J. R R. Tolkein, Robert Heinlein, James Patterson, Clive Cussler, W.E.B Griffin and Stephen Ambrose would be my most notable influences.
What are you working on now?
A true crime novel about a multi-generational family of criminals and a YA series with my daughter about a zombie in love (Romantic/fantasy)
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I tend to do most of my promotion on Instagram and LinkedIn, but have had some success through bknights on Fiverr
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The more you read, and practice your writing, the better you will write. The rest is just logistics.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you are going through Hell, walk like you own the place
If you are going to fight, fight like you are the third monkey on the ramp to Noah’s Ark, and brother, it’s starting to rain.
What are you reading now?
Mission Possible, by Tim Tebow
On Spiritual Combat, by LT. COl. Grossman
Shadows at Dawn by Karl Jacoby
Kindred by Kanika
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson
