Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi there! I’m currently traveling the world with my husband. Our most recent adventures have taken us to Central America, where we have fallen in love with Gautemala—and most especially—Antigua. I’ve written three books so far, with another dozen or so plaguing my mind.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Wardens of Starlight. The third book of my series (A Soulmark Series) I was terribly excited to write it because I knew I would be expanding the universe to a new legion of supernaturals. Buffy the Vampire Slayer may or may not have helped inspire the badass herione—Calliope—who is a warrior herself.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I typically don’t read what I write… as in, my gaze is usually averted from my screen when I get on a writing streak! For whatever reason, I find myself pulled into the thousand-yard stare—lost to my own imagination as I write out the scenes of my book while they happen before my eyes.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Marrisa Meyer, Anne Rice, Erin Morgenstern, and Stephen King have all been large influencers in my writing. They effortlessly draw me into the stories they weave, and I strive to do that in my own writing as well.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the fourth book in my book series (A Soulmark Series)—Mr. Vrana. It’s been the most challenging book I’ve written to date. I’m diving away from the safety of the Adolphus Pack I’ve written and into the dark, seductive world of vampires!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve found good success with Bookbub, FreeBooksy, and Bargain Booksy.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write on! Even when the words aren’t right—push through and write on. Just make it to the next scene and you’ll surely find yourself breathing easier, as well as writing easier.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There’s no such thing as writer’s block. It’s true.
What are you reading now?
Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles Book 2) by Marissa Meyer.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Discovering new lore from the countries my husband and I will visit.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Night Circus, The Book Thief, Treasure Island, and Boat Building for Beginners (and Beyond).
