Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been writing since I was 8 years old and so far have written 8 books, six which have been published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book that I’ve just finished, DAMAGE CONTROL, is scheduled for publication on September 30, 2013. I lived in Kern County, where the story is located, and love writing about my female character, Detective Annie Avants, of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. This book is the second in the Det. Annie Avants series. The first book is CAUSE OF DEATH.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write better in the middle of the night. During the day, I seem to get distracted more easily. However, in the middle of the night I can be wide awake and the words just pour from my head onto my laptop.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Patricia Cornwell. I like the development, over many years, of her character, Dr. Kay Scarpetta. This is what I hope to accomplish with my Detective Annie Avants.
What are you working on now?
I’m starting research on my third book in the Annie Avants series, SOUTHERN SECRETS. Annie is from mena, Arkansas originally, and this story gives us more information about her background and family while she and her partner, Detective Tom Weston, solve some horrific murders in Kern County, California.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still a novice at marketing. I use Twitter, FaceBook, and Google+ at the moment. I continue to study marketing and observe what other successful writers are doing.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The first thing an new author must do is identify their target market so they know to whom they are writing. This is so important, and something that most authors (myself included) overlook.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stephen King basically says just sit your butt down in your chair and write.
What are you reading now?
The Friday Edition by Betta Ferrendelli
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to continue writing stories about Detective Annie Avants. I already have ideas for several more books featuring this female detective and her partner.
What is your favorite book of all time?
