Interview With Author Rez Rez
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a part-time writer with more than a dozen titles to my credit on Amazon, many under different pen names. I’ve written about everything from motorcycling and auto racing to fitness and video games. I’ve recently begun writing books in my favorite genre, light novels.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “The Bullied Girl’s Revenge”, about a bullied girl in a Japanese high school who learns how to box in order to fight back against the girls who torment her. It’s biggest inspiration is The Karate Kid, one of my favorite movies as a kid and easily one of the best anti-bully movies of all time.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I sneak in most of my writing during work hours. When others are taking cigarette breaks, I’m furiously typing away.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
One of my biggest current influences is Oniisanbomber, a light novel writer who seems to have a knack for writing stories that take place in Japan but are accessible to all audiences. But my all-time favorite author is Arthur C. Clarke, who had an incredible ability to bring futuristic, fantastic worlds to life.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on Devil Blade, an action yuri (girl’s love) light novel. It’s about a kunoichi (female ninja) who makes a deal with a demon in order to gain the power to save her sister.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesome Gang seems to be the best, and I’m not just saying that because this is their site. The Gang is consistently rated as the number 1 book promo site for a reason.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write as much as you can and fail as fast as possible. Your early books probably won’t sell much, but they’ll provide valuable lessons that will help your future works be more successful.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Write every day”. You only get better at something by doing it, and writing is a skill that must be honed like any other.
What are you reading now?
I’m doing research for my current light novel, so my reading list includes other action yuri light novels, including “Roll Over and Die” and “The Executioner and Her Way of Life”.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing more light novels. It’s an incredibly fun genre in which to work.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d just bring the bible. I’m not religious, but it’s a big book and contains some of the greatest stories ever written.
