Interview With Author Rez Tactical
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m active duty military and a light novel / book author. I’ve written over twenty books on a variety of subjects, but light novels are my favorite to write.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Devil Blade, volume one. It was inspired by a video game named Muramasa Rebirth which featured a female samurai battling enemies and demons. The idea kind of just grew from there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do my best writing when I’m watching football.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to count but one of the biggest is Oniisanbomber, a great light novel author. Outside of him, there’s Neal Stephenson, Arthur C. Clarke, and Hiromu Arakawa (the woman who wrote and drew the Fullmetal Alchemist series).
What are you working on now?
Hopefully the sequel to Devil Blade. Outside of that, I’m working on a book called Kunoichi-9, about a high-tech kunoichi (female ninja) who battles monsters in a futuristic Tokyo. It’s a favorite theme of mine.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesomegang lives up to its name.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you can afford a professional editor, do it. If not, self-edit your books and be absolutely ruthless with yourself. Cut everything that doesn’t need to be there. If it hurts a bit, you’re probably doing it right.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t push for perfection. Get the book to where it is good enough and then push it out into the world so that you can get the most valuable thing there is: real-world feedback.
What are you reading now?
The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi. Been meaning to get to this one for a while.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Write more books. What else is there?
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d cheat and bring my Kindle, and then figure out how to charge it with solar energy, paper clips, and spit.
