Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Newport, South Wales. But recently moved to the picturesque Forest of Dean which is situated in the western part of the county of Gloucestershire, England. I have a five book publishing contract with Crimson Cloak Publishing based in the USA.
I have written a book series following the life of a young boy, Jimmy Threepwood, who is one day destined to destroy the world. Its a story of Evil vs Good. A story about whether a character will go through with destiny or will he become a hero. The first book is entitled Jimmy Threepwood and the Veil of Darkness. The second book in the series is Jimmy Threepwod and the Elixir of Light.
Jimmy Threepwood and the Veil of Darkness was voted as a finalist for the People’s Book Prize.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I have just this minute finished the final edit of the third book which is entitled Jimmy Threepwood and the Echoes of the Past. That will be published in 2020 by Crimson Cloak Publishing.
A number of things inspire my books. Especially things from my life. A friend of mine once owned an old yellow Mini with a red door. As we drove down the road, water would spray up through the rust in the floor. So I decided to add this as a character called Frank the Frog.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I write I try and visual the section of the story, almost like a movie. Then I write down what I saw. I find if I visualise the action its easier to write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love James Patterson, especially the Alex Cross series. Even though its a different genre, I enjoy the stories and the twists in the plots and I have tried to add that into my children/young adult adventure series.
What are you working on now?
I am now going to concentrate on the fourth story. This one is titled Jimmy Threepwood and the Divider of Fabric and Space. I have also written my 3 year old daughter a story about a Space Race and a Spoon which I may look to illustrate and publish.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find the best way to promote any book would be to go into schools. It has two effects. It inspires the children and gives them a valuable insight into writing and how to start and come up with ideas and it also allows me to share with them my stories. There was nothing better than a parent contacting me to tell me their son and his friends were in the garden playing as Jimmy Threepwood characters.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep going! This is a very challenging environment, but keep writing stories.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
What are you reading now?
I do read a lot of books. Currently I am reading Dean Koontz Lightning – really great book about time travel.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Next for me would be to finish the Jimmy Threepwod series, then I have a few ideas for a new story and the aim would be to try and have that published. I carry a notebook with me and I am always writing ideas down.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
It would have to be:
Stephen King – 11/22/63 (Excellent book about JFK)
Dan Brown – Origin
Dan Brown – Inferno
James Patterson – Jack and Jill
