Interview With Author Richard Hewitt
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired IT consultant, also a widower, so I spend a lot of time writing. I have now written 17 books across various genres, but my latest novel, The Intercessor, is my first attempt at horror.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Intercessor came about at a friend’s memorial service, it is not as macabre as it sounds. I was standing next to my late friend’s granddaughter when I saw the word, intercessor, as one of the church’s staff. Not knowing what the word meant, I asked and as the granddaughter was a graphic designer we came up with a cover. So, now we had a title and a cover, all we had to do was come up with a novel. No problem!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Don’t think so.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think I have been influenced by every author I have read.
What are you working on now?
A murder/mystery novel that also contains a real, feasible suspect for Jack the Ripper.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I hit emails, Facebook and various websites like Awesomegang. As to which is the best method, judging by my sales volume, it is hard to say.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Decide why you are writing. If it’s a career, then you have to plan and market, however, if like myself, it is a hobby, do what you want.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Edit and minimise the mistakes in the manuscript.
What are you reading now?
The Siege
What’s next for you as a writer?
A murder/mystery novel that also contains a real, feasible suspect for Jack the Ripper.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Coral Island by R. M. Ballantyne
The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
The Man Who Was Magic by Paul Gallico
