Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a comedy writer and comic artist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I currently have two books published and more on the way.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel, The Dirtsheets, was inspired by my love of professional wrestling and trolling. I feel that most of today’s ‘comedy’ graphic novels aren’t funny, so I decided to write something that makes me laugh.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Whether writing a novel or article, I like to map out the entire story before writing anything. This helps me create foreshadowing and references in early drafts, rather than forcing myself to rewrite the story to include these ideas.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Johnny Ryan, Scott McCloud and a childhood full of reading the newspaper comics everyday were influential to my art and pacing. Many characters in The Dirtsheets are parodies of WWE wrestlers and the intertwining storylines are inspired by professional wrestling’s style of live-action story telling.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on my next novel set in the universe of my webcomic, First World Problems. It is the story of a man who encounters suicides everywhere he goes, and he must figure out how to stop it before he succumbs to suicide himself. It is a dark comedy comic and traditional novel hybrid. I will resume releasing comics on instagram soon in preparation for release later this year.
In the meantime, I write satire news, links can be found on my website.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I try to promote my work by constantly releasing new material in hopes it will draw attention to my books. For example, I write satire news and occasionally release webcomics.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Schedule time to write.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Always wear sunscreen. Don’t play with gasoline. Check yourself before zipping up.
What are you reading now?
Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules for Life.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to find a publisher for my next novel. During that time, I’ll be writing my next book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible and two copies of The Dirtsheets, so I can be the best selling author on the island.
