Interview With Author Ricky Baxter
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Ricky Baxter, a British fantasy author from the UK!
So far I have written 12 amazing books
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Blue Lunar & The Apex Grail, a high fantasy epic about a boy’s quest to rid the world of a powerful wizard. It is very much a homage to the classic tales we used to love as children.
I was inspired to write this book at an early age, upon seeing TV shows and various films of friends banding together for a united cause. As an adult, I re-wrote the story from the ground up and made it even more fantastic
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to usually write in the night time, especially around midnight. I also can’t have any sound around me when I write, as I feel it breaks my focus and takes me away from my imagination
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I absolutely adore Miyuki Miyabe. She wrote ICO: Castle in the MIST. Its a beautiful tale of a boy who seeks to help a girl escape a dark and dreaded tower
Another is Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist
What are you working on now?
I am actually in the process of doing the sequel to Blue Lunar & The Apex Grail! Many of my readers enjoyed the first book, so I am delighted to continue this series
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me I often speak at schools, which allows new and young readers to take a look at my work. Amazon is the most direct way I promote my books too
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My best advice would be: There is no one-shoe-fits-all approach. Your writing journey is special to you, which would be different to another person. Take confidence with this and use your unique journey to your benefit
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s not a race, it’s a marathon
What are you reading now?
I am actually writing something completely unrelated to fiction. I am reading a book on how to hone your physic potential. by Santana Alaina!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am looking to appear on podcasts more so that I can get myself out there to new readers. I think many writers tend to stay away from being seen, however I wish to do the opposite. Very excited!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Blue Lunar & The Apex Grail (because it’s mine)
The Alchemist
ICO: Castle in the mist
How to survive on a desert island 101
