Interview With Author Rose Titus
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have four books currently available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.com. They can also be found in a few independent bookstores.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Key 13: and Other Stories – it’s a collection of my best stories. The first story is called Key 13 – it’s about a visit to a morgue and based on actual true events.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I just turn on the old computer, and start typing. The story sort of writes itself. As I go along, it feels like the story is really happening around me, or like I’m watching a movie or something, and the real world isn’t there anymore. It’s like I go into a sort of trance like state when I’m writing fiction, like I’m dreaming and when I wake up it’s typed out on the computer screen. It’s like the story is out there, in the ether and I’m channeling it somehow.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve always loved Fred Saberhagen, P.N. Elrod, J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King, and too many others to count. For non-fiction I love to read Michael Harner – his work blows my mind sometimes.
What are you working on now?
I’m just working on some non-fiction true life scary stories for Blood Moon Rising Magazine. I love the research that I do for these articles. Right now I’m researching Countess Bathory – we all know who she was and what she was accused of – but some historians think she may have been innocent. A fascinating history, really. We all may have believed terrible lies about her, all these centuries.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still experimenting with book promotion right now, finding new and better ways to show my books around.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Proof read – proof read over and over again. Make it perfect before sending it in.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t quit your day job – which is true – no one will be famous overnight. You have to keep working on it, all the time, 24/7 if you want to get ahead.
What are you reading now?
I’m just going through the latest issue of Fortean Times – it’s a British magazine that I’ve become addicted to.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll just keep writing and reading and researching, and cranking good stuff out. My purpose, I suppose, is to create works that people will read and enjoy.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
There are so many wonderful books, I can’t name them all. I’d rather just be locked up in a library. If I was locked up in a library, I’d just never want to come out again.
