Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
So far I’ve had magazine stories published and a novella. I love writing, romances mainly, and have completed a novel set in the Swinging 1960s.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A Fortnight is not Enough.
I began with the persistent fantasy of enjoying a holiday so much I resolved not to come back! This is what my heroine Imogen does in Provence.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read very widely, including classics.
Among more recent books I’ve been particularly impressed with The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood and The Timetraveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
What are you working on now?
I am writing a novel set in World War I.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be persistent – don’t give up easily.
What are you reading now?
Stalin’s Ghost by Martin Cruz Smith. I don’t read a lot of thrillers but his ones, set in Russia and the former Soviet Union, are fascinating. As usual everyone is trying to kill him, particularly the characters who begin by seeming harmless…
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing – and I need to build up my social media presence.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
The Story of San Michele by Axel Munthe
