Interview With Author Rye Gable
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a single man in my 60s based in North Carolina, and I’ve been passionate about writing since college. For years, my writing primarily revolved around Facebook posts about family vacations and updates on various groups I was involved with. However, a life-changing event earlier this year prompted a shift in my focus. Now, I delve into themes of single life in later years, Christianity, my Catholic faith, and crafting Christian-themed puzzle books.
I have published three distinctive books, each reflecting my journey and interests.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is 1,000 EXTREME Bible Names Word Search. I saw that these books were top-rated on Amazon and while I found many Christian-themed puzzle books, mine appears to be unique.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
The puzzle book required extensive research to find 1,000 unique Bible names, but very little actual writing was involved. I read different Bible verses for my Christian Devotionals books, ponder their meaning, and then write entirely off the cuff. I usually have a title in mind, but it often changes, and the body of the devotional evolves.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Holy Moments by Matthew Kelly
Home Sweet Rome by Scott and Kimberly Hahn
Jeff Cavins
Fr. Mike Schmitz
The Bible – various translations
What are you working on now?
I expect to publish multiple volumes of 30 Christian Devotionals, including volumes specific to religious and national holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, The New Year, and Easter.
I’m working on 30 Christian Devotionals Reflections on Faith Volume 2 and 1,000 MORE EXTREME Bible Names Word Seach.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Many of my Devotionals are based on my responses to Daily Devotionals on Our Daily Bread, Living Faith, and The Upper Room.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I advise new authors to pick a genre that aligns with their interests. A plethora of authors create books for the pure purpose of making money. While there’s nothing wrong with that, I recommend building a following over time, focusing on a niche.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Research before you write.
What are you reading now?
Amazing Grace for the Catholic Heart: 101 Stories of Faith, Hope, Inspiration & Humor by Jeff Cavins
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am writing under a pen name, and as my circumstances are resolved, I plan to have an “Author Reveal” event. After that time, I hope to write an autobiography and one or more books on the evils of false idols, specifically pornography.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition Bible
American History, Combined Edition: 1492 – Present by Thomas Kidd
Flight: The Complete History of Aviation by R. G. Grant
