Interview With Author S.G. Blaise
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in a faraway land of castles, monarchies, and fallen dictatorships, aka Hungary. Hollywood movies were largely forbidden under Soviet oppression during my childhood, but my dad smuggled them in any way, risking his life so that his children could experience the magic and hope inherent in those stories. I watched rebellions unfold in real-time and journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean for love. I ended up in sunny southern California, where I’m living my dream — writing stories and annoying family members.
Through my writing journey, I have published two novels within the Last Lumenian series, and the third in the series is set to release on December 6th, 2022!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is the third in the Last Lumenian Series, Proud Pada. Lilla is on her next mission as a Sybil to The Archgoddess of the Eternal Light and Order when she must travel to the Pada world following the trail of a ruthless murderer. Navigating deadly politics turns increasingly challenging as the Teryn emperor goes missing. Now the Teryn empire is heading toward civil war, and Lilla must uncover who is behind the conspiracy before it’s too late. Unfortunately, her success depends on the Proud Pada.
The inspiration for this book stems from wanting to develop my original idea of Lilla’s story further. At this point in her hero’s journey, Lilla is experiencing significant changes in her life by trying to understand her role in the Era War and better understanding herself and how her actions affect the people around her. Readers will experience a sci-fi fantasy action adventure unlike any they have experienced before!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
One of my most unusual writing habits is that I adore building lego sets when I need a break to organize my thoughts. I have found that when I need to reset my mind, keeping my hands busy and building lego sets has tremendously helped my writing process. It allows me to stay creative while not overthinking by giving myself time to think outside the box.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are many amazing authors who influenced me both professionally and as a reader. They include authors like Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, Ilona Andrews, Kim Harrison, Patricia Briggs, Danielle Steele, Sydney Sheldon, Robert Ludlum, Karen Marie Moning just to name a few.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on making the final touches to Proud Pada and preparing to write the next book in the series. It has been a pleasure to see where this series will go, and I think the readers will be elated with what is coming next.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
One of the most significant methods of promotion I have used for my book series is the Goodreads giveaway. Goodreads is a place where all readers can go to explore authors and their work so bringing the book directly to those who want to dive into their next adventure is the best possible route for every indie author.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best piece of advice I could provide to a new author is the importance of patience. Not knowing when the book would be ready to get published added a level of uncertainty that can be challenging to experience. When I stopped and took a deep breath and began embracing the journey rather than rushing, I learned to enjoy the process, and my focus shifted from the unknown to appreciating all the mini-accomplishments along the way. Everyone’s writing journey differs, don’t let that stop you from creating your own path.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve received is to follow your passion regardless of how much you know about it because there’s always more to learn. There is always a sense of fear in pursuing your dream due to feeling imposter syndrome and the worry that one is not advanced enough to reach their goal. Finding a way around those feelings and pushing through will lead to bringing your dreams a reality.
What are you reading now?
I am currently rereading Dune by Frank Herbert.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan on continuing to work on the Last Lumenian Series and bring other aspects of that story to life through comic books and other forms of writing. I can’t wait for the readers to see what I have in store for them!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on a desert island and could only select 3 to 4 books to bring with me, I would have to take one of Ilana Andrews’ books, one of Brandon Sanderson’s novels, and a survival book. Two for an escape from reality and one to help me survive as long as I can.
