Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I worked in a number of fields before making the decision to write full time. One day, I woke up and decided to stop letting life get in the way. I had a full time job; I would get up early and write for five hours before going to work. Time would fly when I wrote, and soon I looked forward to getting up—I wasn’t just working, I was following my passion.
My first book was PAGES IN THE WIND. It is a psychological thriller. It was a three year journey, published September 2015.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
PAGES IN THE WIND is the name of the book. I was inspired by psychology, a subject of interest to me. I wanted to explore the role of abuse or neglect on shaping identity. Prior to publication, I had a psychiatrist read the book for authenticity in terms of the research. He enjoyed the book and wrote me a testimonial, which I appreciated so much.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write as soon as I get up. I like the room quiet and I light a candle (corny, I know). I get ideas when I walk and listen to music.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m influenced by authors that delve as far into the soul as possible. I also love the classics, and have the full collection of Harvard Classics. I’m determined to finish every volume.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a love story with mystery, called BROOKLYN BITTERS. It is a story about two very-different sisters and the trappings of family loyalty.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day. Read your words out loud after you’ve finished.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do not confuse the reader.
What are you reading now?
English Poetry.
What’s next for you as a writer?
One book flows into another—I love stories.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Poetry, anything by Stephen King, and Don Quixote.
