Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born and raised in the province of Quebec and moved to Ontario when I was 16.
I have always been creative and so I chose to pursue graphic design in college. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to work in the field.
It wasn’t until I became a mother that story telling became a part of my life. In 2005 I started writing story ideas down but never seemed to be able to finish anything. Five years later, I finally made up my mind to stick to one idea and complete it. My first novel, Promised Soul, was completed in 2012.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My debut novel, Promised Soul, was inspired by the concept of soulmates and the possibility of people having past lives. I believe that sometimes we can meet someone and it feels as though we have known them forever. There are many stories of children recalling events that they can’t possibly understand or know about. Promised Soul is a fiction novel that explores those possibilities.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know how unusual it is, but I usually come up with the last line of a story first and want it to end. Once that idea is formed I work on the beginning. As for the middle of the story I usually have no idea how that’s going to take place. I sometimes feel as though once the characters have been developed, that it is them who write the story.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Diana Gabaldon, J. K. Rowling have been a couple of my biggest influences. I used to think that to become an author, it had to be something that you studied at. When I read that Diana and J. K. had other careers first I realized that it was possible for me too.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a thriller and a fantasy. The thriller is basically finished, though I need to complete a final read through for errors. The fantasy is almost finished.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have promoted my book on many social media outlets as well as on my website. I have had a couple of successful book signings and look forward to more.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Start your author platform as early as possible. Build your audience even before your book is published. Getting your name out there is very important.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
When it comes to writing the best advice was “Show don’t Tell”. I keep this in mind as I edit and has helped make my stories more descriptive.
What are you reading now?
Right now I am reading Written in my Own Hearts Blood by Diana Gabaldon
What’s next for you as a writer?
To continue publishing books. I would love to make it a new career.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well if it couldn’t be 4 books on survival skills, I would bring the first 4 novels of the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. They are long books and are sure to pass the time.
