Interview With Author Sandra Nomoto
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a book whisperer who helps authors with impact create books. I also help vegan entrepreneurs with administrative, marketing, and publicity services. I’ve self-published two books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Vegan Marketing Success Stories was inspired by a lack of books about vegan businesses. When I realized there was only one book published in 2015 that talked about running a vegan business, I saw a gap in the marketing and knew I had to publish the world’s first vegan marketing book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite genre is memoir, but I also like business books and comedic fiction. I absolutely love Elizabeth Gilbert’s writing and recently discovered Indigenous Canadian author Richard Wagamese who is also a master of memoir. My favorite book of all time is L’etranger (The Stranger/Outsider), which I read in English class in high school.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on my first memoir about my mother.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I believe most people bought my book because they heard me on a vegan podcast. However, nothing beats meeting your readers in person and signing a hard copy.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
While you are writing your book, you should also think about your target reader(s) and how you’re going to reach them. Marketing your book is where all the real work begins!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I listen to a lot of podcasts so I hear a lot of good advice. However, Mel Robbins recently released her newest book, The Let Them Theory, which is about letting others be who they are or do what they want to do, even if you feel like changing their behavior. It’s a great reminder that we only have control over our actions and how we react to people or situations.
What are you reading now?
Don’t Forget the Soap (And Other Reminders from My Fabulous Filipina Mother) by Marie Claire Lim Moore
What’s next for you as a writer?
I write a lot for clients and love ghostwriting and editing other authors’ books. However, I’m reading books for research on my memoir.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
L’etranger, Born a Crime, The Alchemist, Atomic Habits
