Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey, I’m a crazy language lover, gamer, avid bookworm and writer of children’s and YA books. When I’m not writing, reading, gaming, or buying language stuff (shh, don’t tell anyone, but the trick with putting textbooks under your pillow doesn’t work), I’m working as freelance editor, translator, and language teacher.
So far, I have five print books and a total of ten ebooks out.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Pirates, Pirates!, and it’s part three in my YA fantasy/mystery series A Rogue’s Tale. I don’t exactly know where the inspiration came from, but my muse did an awesome job of making the story flow and fit together (granted, having a very critical beta reader helped tons, too).
It’s a tale of greed, and of courage. Tayla risks her own life to find out the truth behind the murder of a sailor, and stumbles in the middle of piracy.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Um…don’t know, does staying up half of the night and singing along with songs whether I know the lyrics or not count?
What authors, or books have influenced you?
In my childhood, I was definitely greatly influenced by Enid Blyton and her adventure books. I think I can also say that J. K. Rowling influenced me a great deal since Harry Potter were the first books I ever read in English (I’m German). After those, many, many more books followed, mostly fantasy or pre-historic fiction, and of course Agatha Christie, *the* lady of British mystery. I just love her books and buy them wherever I can find them. I already have books by her in three different languages, although I prefer to read books in their original language.
What are you working on now?
I participate in Camp NaNo this July and want to write part four of my series, Mystery of the White Wolf. In this book, Tayla and Govin will venture outside the city of Davon for the first time. Sorry, but that’s all my muse has told me so far….
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Good question, please let me know when you find the answer to that. No, honestly, I’m still trying things out, but I definitely get the most interaction with fans on Facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. And read. And read some more. Then write.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To keep on writing.
What are you reading now?
Nothing. I just finished rereading Trudi Canavan’s The Magician’s Apprentice while I’m waiting for part three in her Traitor Spy trilogy to arrive. It’s due early August, so I have all of July to concentrate on my writing (willing the book to arrive earlier doesn’t work, by the way–I tried).
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully the release of A Rogue’s Tale Part IV this fall, and the release of Miro the Dragon in Chinese in winter (and, maybe, Miro 2).
What is your favorite book of all time?
That’s impossible to answer. There were too many books I absolutely loved. Some of my favourite authors are Trudi Canavan, Licia Troisi, Agatha Christie, Enid Blyton, J. K. Rowling, and, more recently, Julia Beylouny and Tanja Höfliger, two German fantasy writers. I also really loved Gear&Gear’s pre-historic fiction series People of…
