Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started writing and publishing Spanish and English books for my students as an online teacher. When COVID hit, I quit my own successful, online company because of the stress during that time. When the opportunity presented itself to start helping others write and publish books, it was ideal. I could transfer my teaching skills, as well as the knowledge gained from publishing 15 of my own books, and still help others. That is how Nomad Publishing began. I have published 2 collaborative travel books in 2021, and am working on my 3rd, which will be published in March, 2022.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Born to Travel: Wanderlust Families that Collect Passport Stamps Instead of Toys was my lastest book. It was inspired by families who have chosen to travel the world with their children. Family travel is completely underrepresented, and many people believe that it has no value, or is even detrimental to children. Which cannot be further from the truth. The book features 12 authors who share their unique stories.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Many! I will often transcribe my thoughts and then turn them into ¨writing¨. I also like writing at night, when everyone else is asleep.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There was this series of books, fiction, based on crime. The titles went by the alphabet, so they were like A is for Alibi, M is for Murder, etc. When I live in El Salvador, a woman was leaving and just gave me a box of books. About 20 of them were by this author. I couldn’t put them down! I also enjoy true crime.
What are you working on now?
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best way to promote is when someone is looking for the information in the book. If I see someone ask online, I will comment with the book link (as long as it honestly is the answer to their question).
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Your first draft will be horrible. Do it anyway. Once you have something down, you have something to work with.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If it bleeds, it leads. Meaning, if it doesn’t hurt to write it – no one will read it.
What are you reading now?
Unfortunately – nothing but my own books. I try to hide in the bathroom for 5-10 minutes to get some books in…. but my small children make it hard for me!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am putting together a book called Gringos: American Expats Living the Mexican Dream, which will detail our decisions to move to Mexico.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Time to Kill, The Lottery, and a Chicken Soup book.
