Interview With Author Sarah Dick
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written this one book so far. Many more are brewing in my head. New Massage Therapis’s Guide: Practical & Prven Tips. This is a compilation of all the things I would want a younger version of myself to know. I did not have the benefit of a mentor, so I watched thos around me for best practices. Now I have been a Medical Massage Therapist for 26 years and am sharing my thoughts and wisdom so others have an easier time of it.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
New Massage Therapist’s Guide: Practical & Proven Tips. I have been writing these ideas down for years as a possible mentorship to other and newer massage therapists. Then I met a book writing coach that twught me there were books on Amazon designed as a business quick read. I thought tha would really work for my style and so I started pursuing it.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have discovered that if I can get up and start writing early, like 5:30 or so, in the morning, that is very beneficial. I don’t feel the pull of the world at that time. But it requires going to bed early, which is a big shift for me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve always thought of the children’s book, Heidi, as my favorite book since I was young. The description of their daily lives was just so interesting to me. It teaches me that storytelling is in the details.
I generallly will read anything in front of me, especially technique books and mystery novels.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a second-in-series book for mentoring new Massage Therapists.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still to new to the self-publishing world to know what works and what doesn’t. I do know that promotion is important. Just because I wrote a great book, people won’t flock to it if they don’t hear about it.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Definitely keep writing. Get all those ideas out. You never know which one will be the next perfect idea. Try to find those in your family/freinds groups who will give you feedback and help in general. Many people will be excited for you, but few will be your active and involved beta readers, etc.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
One of the best things i can do is slow myself down when in doubt and seek answers from my higher power, God.
What are you reading now?
I am reading my own work right now. It is hard for me to read others’ works because I either get a new creative idea or I think “Why didn’t I think to include that in my own work?”
What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing this series, then who knows? I definitely have a couple mor business books in me. I’d like to write novels after that. Creativity is a wonderful thing!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Probably the BIble because it is lengthy and confusing, so it would be interesting reading for a long time. I’s love to bring a book on meditating, because that would be needed to calm the anxiety of being stranded, a book on muscles and nerves so I would be better prepared for my work once I was rescued, and a book about neurology because that is the last frontier of our knowledge.
