Interview With Author Saugia Smiley
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written two books both are the beginning of what I hope to be a long series. I was born in Jamaica but have lived in the states since I was a teenager. I love traveling and have seen 70% of the world as a former flight attendant. Post Covid – I have retreated to writing and working on helping other authors publish their books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Weathered. I love thrillers and romance and after reading a new Alex Cross book from my favorite author James Patterson I found myself writing furiously.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Does lighting candles, having the t.v on and music in the background count?
What authors, or books have influenced you?
James Patterson and Tamora Pierce.
Growing up I loved Tamora Pierce novels they gave me strength as I tried to navigate the cultural differences that I faced when I moved to the states.
What are you working on now?
The sequel to Weathered – Showered a novel that follows Cyrena’s daughter as she navigates a life of disappointment with the staggering belief that she is the product of a monster.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I typically use amazon advertisement and instagram
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t stop writing even if you can’t publish right now. It is important to maintain your habit of writing as often as possible until you can write everyday.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write everyday! no matter if its by putting pen to paper, typing or diction just get in the habit of writing everyday like a job.
What are you reading now?
Twilight. I’ve read it before but I was feeling nostalgic the last few days so I bought a new copy.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More books of course. Though it has taken me some time to get back in the swing of things I am making it my mission to write at least two books a year and publish as quickly as I can.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
