Interview With Author Savannah Province
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I’m Savannah Province. For the past 12 years I’ve been a paraprofessional in public elementary schools. This is my first book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Big Changes for Emma Hope is my first book. I was inspired by a student at my school who was looking forward to her first baby sibling in third grade.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to set a timer and do word sprints. I write best in my glider with my feet up on the gliding footstool. (I’m on it now!)
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve always been a big reader. Before I wrote BCFEH, I stumbled across Clementine by Sara Pennypacker in my teacher husband’s donated library. Clementine gave me the idea to start my book because it was the perfect length for my target audience.
What are you working on now?
Besides marketing this book, I’m currently writing the sequel to Big Changes for Emma Hope. A few kids have asked for it!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m definitely still learning about promotion.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get the words down. I heard once that you can’t edit a blank page, and I love that.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” -Oscar Wilde
What are you reading now?
I just finished Make Up Break Up by Lily Menon, a contemporary romance novel.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d like a few more books about Emma, as long as I keep having ideas.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs
Planning the Impossible by Mavis Jukes
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
