Interview With Author Schieloh Wolfe
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a writer and editor currently based in Coastal Georgia. I co-authored “Implementing Success: Strategies for Effective Caregiving and Care Support” with my wife, Naomi Latini Wolfe. I have many short stories published in various places, such as Medium.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Implementing Success: Strategies for Effective Caregiving and Care Support” was published this August! We were inspired to write it based on the growing global need for quality caregiving as populations age and chronic illnesses rise. Caregivers today face immense challenges and need evidence-based guidance and resources to support their crucial work.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When working on fiction, I listen to playlists of songs or albums that match the tone and themes of whatever story I’m writing. It helps put me in the right headspace.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness by Erich Fromm is a classic work examining humanity’s destructive and cruel tendencies on both individual and societal levels. And A Book of Dreams by George F. Simmons is a short story collection that blends horror, sci-fi, and fantasy by a Bram Stoker Award winner.
What are you working on now?
We are researching new strategies for assessing caregiver needs and connecting them to community-based resources for additional support. The goal is to update relevant chapters in future editions. Additionally, we will publish a book focusing on the intersection of AI and human creativity in the summer of 2025.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Sharing my work through creative writing magazines and journals helps build an audience. I also blog about the writing and editing process on my website.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to engage in online and offline writing communities actively. Writer friends can offer feedback, encouragement, and expertise as you develop your craft.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it.” – Octavia Butler
What are you reading now?
I just started The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith, which imagines a library where stories could have been written live. Sounds fascinating!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d love to start drafting a novel-length work of speculative fiction inspired by places I’ve explored. We are also working on an exciting textbook about AI and human creativity to be published in 2025.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’ll pack The Almanac of Marine Wildlife, a collection of Le Guin’s Hainish stories, David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, and a guide to edible island plants, just in case!
