Author Bio:
Valerie D. Perry’s mission is to inspire people to live larger, more adventurous lives than they ever dreamed possible.
Valerie has visited all 50 United States, more than 50 countries, and has written multiple books about travel. But she didn’t grow up as an adventurer. She was the definition of a homebody and was too shy and afraid to go to summer camp. In fact, Valerie received her college degree before her first boarding pass. But once she started traveling, she hasn’t stopped.
Her travel career began with touring North America on a bus with a small production company. Then, in October 2009, she headed out to sea as a Broadcast Technician for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. During her time with Royal Caribbean, she worked on Explorer, Serenade, Jewel, Liberty, and Allure of the Seas.
In July 2013, she headed back to dry land when she accepted a role on the production team of a speakers’ series created by National Geographic. While at National Geographic, Valerie honed her storytelling and public speaking skills while creating stage shows for some of the most prolific photographers, writers, and explorers in the organization. During her career, she rose to the role of Head of Programming and Production for National Geographic Live and hosted a monthly, sold-out event at the National Geographic Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Valerie jumped at the chance to return to sea when Holland America Line introduced the role of Cruise and Travel Director in April 2019. She gets to share her passion for travel by giving talks about the history, culture, and must-see attractions of each destination, all while personally assisting the guests to make their vacation as seamless and memorable as possible. So far, she has worked on Oosterdam, Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Koningsdam, and Nieuw Statendam.
Across her decade at sea, Valerie has sailed in Canada, New England, Bermuda, Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, Mexico, Hawaii, French Polynesia, and Asia. But she specializes in Caribbean and Alaska cruises. Her favorite places to sail are Alaska and Canada/New England.
When not onboard, you’ll find her exploring US National Parks and collecting credit card and loyalty program points so she can constantly travel to new destinations.
