Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m the founder of Black Girlz Productions, an award-winning playwright and an author. I produce stageplays and short films. I hold degrees in psychology and education. I was born in Arkansas and currently reside in California. I just released my first children’s book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Adventures of Sugamama. It’s a story about a little girl who wakes up in the middle of the night and finds out that she is a superhero. My niece inspired the book. She loves to hear a bedtime story so I decided to write one.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write in the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes I wake up around 3:00 or 4:00 and will start writing.

What are you working on now?
I’m in pre-production for my upcoming short film titled Justice. I’m also promoting my latest children’s book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method for promoting books is word of mouth. If you get enough people backing your work. It will sell it self. I also like social media. It’s free and you can reach a large amount of people at one time.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Have tough skin. Some people will love your work, and some people will hate it. You can’t please everyone. It you are passionate about your project, bring it to life.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Believe in yourself.
What are you reading now?
I have been reading articles on promoting and distributing content.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, I’m brainstorming ideas for my second children’s book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
This is a tough qestion. I can’t give you 3 or 4. I would say something by Bishop T.D. Jakes and Dave Ramsey.
