Sharon Kotzur
Dip. T, B.Ed., Grad Dip T (Th. Ed) M.Ed.
I am a teacher, educator, leader, former principal and Christian.
I taught for 6 years as a Primary teacher and Curriculum Coordinator before becoming Deputy Principal for 5 years, and then Principal of a Lutheran Primary school at the age of 32. I spent the next 20 years in the job and, in addition, was heavily involved in supporting School Principals and leaders across Australia through Lutheran Principals Australia (as Chair and executive member) as well as the Independent Schools Association of NSW.
I was also the Assistant Director for Lutheran Education Australia (Vic, NSW and Tasmania), for two years and was an Executive Member of the Association of Independent Schools NSW Research Council for four years.
After 20 years of being in the job as Principal, I decided to take some time off to replenish, reflect and recreate.
It was during this time that I decided to record and share some of the lessons learned from my time in the job and record them in such a manner as to encourage others to use them and thus save them valuable time in the process.
This is my first book (but it won’t be my last!)
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called “Easy Speeches: Instant Inspirational Speeches and Motivational Messages for Busy Leaders”.
One of my passions in the field is to equip and empower other leaders for the tasks ahead and help people save time and money in the process. I do not believe in ‘reinventing the wheel’ so to speak, but in sharing resources designed to help, empower and encourage others – and that is why I wrote this book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really – only that my dog Baxter often accompanies my writing by having to sit directly next to the keyboard on my desk!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have so many favourite authors, many of them both Christian and non-Christian but just recently Jentezen Franklin inspired me to give book writing ago after I listened to a talk that he gave on how he has written many books which he never believed would ever be possible. I often doubted my ability to do so but after listening to him and through my personal faith walk with God, I since decided to put pen to paper and to publish this book. I know that there will be others like it.
What are you working on now?
I am now working on two books:
Book 2 of “Easy Speeches: Instant Inspirational Speeches and Motivational Messages for Busy Leaders” and then a book of Devotions on a range of topics.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That I am still to discover. I am hoping to learn from many others.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Give it a go and don’t give up!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up!
What are you reading now?
The Kindle Publishing Bible (lol) – by Tom Corson-Knowles and my normal bible! 🙂
What’s next for you as a writer?
At the moment I am working on getting my website up and running and integrating and using social media alongside of it.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible and then I would like to bring a whole suitcase of others!
