Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a relatively new erotica author with 3 books currently available and a lot more on the way. I have Their Wild Little Girl published via Stormy Night Publications, Their Meddling Aunt a self-published sequel to Wild Little Girl (I felt it necessary to give readers closure) and Submission Backstory: Memoir of a BDSM Authoress published through Wordwooze publishing.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Submission Backstory: Memoir of a BDSM Authoress. It’s a shorter work that was inspired by my first two. I got this idea to expand on the town from my first back and use it as a hub for erotic stories and adventures that would all interconnect. This will eventually create a series of stand-alone works that will keep fans up-to-date on their favorite characters.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Aside from frequently writing while naked (puts me in that erotica mood) my strangest habit is to write without a plan. I don’t create a plot skeleton and I begin writing before I know where the story will go or how it will end. I keep sparse notes for continuity sake (was that character’s eyes blue or green?) but aside from this I don’t plan I simply write and tell myself the story as I go. This leads to unique stories that surprise readers.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Drew karpyshyn springs to mind for his Darth Bane: Path of Destruction. I loved this book as a Star Wars fan but what really influenced me about it was that it was still a fantastic story with all the Star Wars removed. It was an existential journey with interesting characters and a strong philosophical undertone. It stood out in the Star Wars and even Sci-Fi genres because it didn’t let being there hold it back from being a great all-round story.
What are you working on now?
I am currently, and perhaps foolishly, writing two works at the same time. I am working on a lesbian seduction story that is just straight up steamy fun and an erotic tragedy that follows the events of Submission Backstory. This will build the world more and is my most intricate and challenging work to date.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Aside from this one which I just found? I use fiverr a lot. There are numerous promotional opportunities on there at very good prices. You have to be careful who you go with, read their info carefully and avoid red flags like poor english but there are many who are fantastic to work with and provide great results.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t get hung up on what you’re writing, how it ‘should’ go etc. Write what you enjoy because you enjoy it. You can decide what genre the book is and how to describe it once its finished.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best “advice” so to speak comes from the Roman military. “Fortune favors the bold.” If you let yourself get hung up on worries and doubts about whether you’ll “make it” or whether anyone will like your work you’ll never get anywhere. Write because you love it, submit to publishers or self-publish because you want to….flip that coin. It may not work but it CAN’T work if you don’t try.
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading “Best Lesbian Erotica 2016” from Carina Press. As I’m writing lesbian erotica I want to see how the genre stands so I can out do the best! (What can I say? I’m competitive).
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing ๐
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Is there a book called how to build a raft?
Nah, I’d enjoy being a lone on a desert island. I’d bring:
Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche (My fave non-fiction book).
Darth Bane: Path of Destruction by Drew Karpyshyn (My fave fiction book).
Their Wild Little Girl by Shawna Hunter (My first novel to remind me I did it!)
Their Meddling Aunt by Shawna Hunter (Because narratives should be complete)
