Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Sheyanne Warren. I am from Syracuse, NY but have lived in Charlotte, NC for 4 years. I am a middle school teacher of social studies and science. I am a bibliophile first and an author second!
I have two published works | The Jelena Cohert Series books 1 & 2. They are paranormal romantic crime suspense with a lead women of color – Hispanic. Jelena deals with real issues and struggles to navigate through her personal life; while being a kick ass FBI agent and often falling victim to her job in more ways than one.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is not yet published. It is a prequel novella really diving into Jelena’s past and what makes her the person she is. It gives reads a chance to really root for Jelena and become connected to the characters I utilize often in the series.
My masters degree is in forensic psychology. Human behavior, especially criminal behavior has always fascinated me. That is where I was inspired to write crime novels. My main character is a person of color, as will all the characters in all the books I write. I feel like, people need to see people, especially women of color is different lights and broaching this topic with fictional works seems like a good start on how I change start to change that. Even though I am a black women I find it important that I write about multiple different cultures of color.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t outline!
I know, I know but I have never been on to outline anything, even in college.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My all time favorite author is Cynthia Eden. My favorite author currently is Blake Pierce. I feel like my style is a mixture between those two with my culture twist.
What are you working on now?
I have 3 WIP. two are novella, the ones that highlight a main character in the series like I mentioned with my Jelena Cohert Character earlier.
I am also working on a YA fantasy novel.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social media is best for me and it drives people to my website which carries all my content. I am most active on Instagram.com/what_sheyreads_author.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Research!! I have a blog post about 3 tips for the first time indie author. I definitly am learning from my mistakes and seek out other self-published avenues for advice.
Get your team together early: Betareader team, Editor, ARC reader team, Design individual or team. Even if you plan to design your self, have all that stuff in order 1st!
Your launch week is Important!! Research it and implement it well!

We all make mistakes.
What are you reading now?
I am reading a non fiction – conflict, action and suspense: a writers how to and a fiction house of the night novel! I am on book 6 in the series. In the car I listen to Blake Pierce Riley Paige series book 17.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Just to keep writing and putting out conent.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would grab three books, 500 pages or more from author I know I love that I have never read before.
