Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in northern New Jersey with my sister and brother. We share treasured memories of high school, the Jersey shore, and skiing with cousins, all of which became part of “April’s Heart”. I went to college in Washington DC and became a teacher. I live in Virginia Beach, Virginia with my husband of thirty years. Our two boys are in their twenties making their own way in the world. April’s Heart is my one and only book so far. I am a new author.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My romance novel is “April’s Heart”, inspired by my experiences and romances in high school in the 1980’s. Although it is definitely fictional, it loosely follows the skeleton of my life. The character Mitch Hudgins and his relationship with April Schweiter are based on several boyfriends I had back in the day.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My preferred method of exercise is power walking. During all thoughs hours and miles I would think and think about what should happen next. I would be inspired by the music playing through my earbuds, then go home and write it down.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love romance novels, especially erotic romance, so of course E.L. James Fifty Shades of Grey is a favorite. I also love the Twilight series.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am working on promoting April’s Heart. As a new author I am finding my way about how to do this. I also think about a possible plot for another romance novel. I like the idea of life long best friends falling in love, but we’ll see.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook for sure. I often will post something on my blog from my website, then boost it on my Facebook page.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
As a new author myself I feel that I am more of a recipient of advice, but I have to say that if you get stuck working your way through KDP, don’t hesitate to contact them. Their system of calling you back is great!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
No book is everyone’s cup of tea. My brother in law told me that when I was feeling squeamish.
What are you reading now?
I just finished The Handmaid’s Tale.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Promote, promote, promote, and try to get those that have read it leave reviews. I dream of writing another romance novel, but I haven’t started one yet.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring April’s Heart for one. I just love it. I think it such a fun read. I still laugh out loud at some parts. I think I would bring The Time Traveler’s Wife, I loved that book.
