Interview With Author Sierra Vandervort
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Sierra! I’m a 27-year-old witchy woman living in Portland, Oregon. I’m a yoga teacher, freelancer, and newly self-published author. I have two books published internationally through a traditional publishing house, (Solar) but I just recently self-published my first title!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Your Year of Magic. It’s a journaling workbook that outlines every full moon of the year and teaches you how to utilize them to feel good and reach your potential. Moon magic is an intuitive way to connect to your highest self through nature. But it can also be a helpful framework for goal-setting that actually honors your energetic ebbs & flows!
In my new book, I included rituals, journal prompts, and high-vibe insights for every full moon of the year. By attuning to this energy, we are taken out of the uninspiring repetition of the everyday – and begin to feel a bit of magic and transformation in our lives!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to blare house music while I’m writing sometimes. It really helps me get “in the zone!”
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dorothy Morrison, Danu Forest, Paulo Coelho, and Hunter S. Thompson.
What are you working on now?
I’ve been doing a lot of magazine work at the moment, but I’m about to start work on my next book, a tracking journal for women to understand and harness the power of their menstrual cycle.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly, organic sharing on Instagram! I’m still pretty new to promoting my book, but it’s worked out really well for me so far.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t settle for less than total alignment with your creative vision. But at the same time, don’t expect perfection.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love, and trust that everything else will follow.
What are you reading now?
Shamelessly, Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer. It’s a bit of a nostalgic indulgence for me, but I stand by it.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Trying to give as much support as I can to my new book, and hopefully, create some fun local events here in Portland centered around it!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Walden, and The Bhagavad Gita
