Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written five novels, but Marred is my debut release. The other titles will be published in the coming months. I’m a member of Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime, and I run a popular crime website/blog at www.suecoletta.com, where I post writing tips, crime tips, and have special guest from within law enforcement, mainly.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Marred is a psychological thriller/mystery. The inspiration came to me after the news reported another woman being victimized. My hope is that Sage’s story will inspire others to seek help.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
We all have our own way of doing things. Unusual habits? Not to me. LOL
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to list. Larry Brooks, Thomas Harris, Lee Childs, Katia Lief, Karin Slaughter. I could go on and on.
What are you working on now?
Wings of Mayhem, a psychological thriller. I’m doing the final edits before I submit to my publisher.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Because Marred is only available for pre-release, I’m still navigating my way with the promotional waters. But I have found good luck engaging with people on Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, and my own site. The writing community is so supportive of one another.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Hone your craft. Persistence will pay off. Grow rhino skin. Rejection isn’t personal. And don’t be afraid to ask for help.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Whether you’re a pantser or plotter, all bestselling books have the same structure. Learn it.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading a couple of books now. Deadly Messages by Susan May and Claw Hammer by Paul Dale Anderson.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Who knows what the future will hold, which I find exciting. For now, my plan is to go over my other four novels and make them shine before I submit to my publisher. Also, I’d love to go for the New Blood Dagger, but we’ll see what happens.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Silence of the Lambs, and three new ones I’ve never read.
