Interview With Author Sunday Nwachukwu
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Sunday Nwachukwu is a Nigerian author possessed with an overmastering love for God, His word, and for men as well. I was privileged to be saved very early in life, however, I never knew what it really meant to be saved and born again – just a casual churchgoer. Not until at age 17 when I mysteriously fell sick and couldn’t stand on my two feet much less walking: just bedridden. I was taken to different hospitals for diagnosis and possible treatment, nevertheless, I was never diagnosed of anything, nor did I get any better with their treatments.
Consequently, we resorted to prayer houses. However, for all our itinerancy from one prayer house to another, I was never healed. My mum and I were really disappointed and frustrated about the whole situation. The God whom we believed was our last hope, we thought had failed us. Therefore, at the suggestion of many, we took to traditional medication. Yet, for all their efforts I wasn’t any better nor cured. I was brought home and dumped counting down to the day I would die, as all hopes were lost.
However, right there on the sick bed it dawned on me that there is really no help anywhere but in Gods. There and then, I began to build a personal relationship with God. Aftermath to this, rather than dying off in a matter of days as was expected, I rather began to do the things I coudn’t do. I began to stand up, and taking few steps. My speech became audible and distinct.
One Saturday evening, I told my mother, tomorrow, I’m going to church with you. Therefore, on Sunday, my mother took me to church. Everyone was startled at seeing me. When it was time for testimony, I startled everyone the more: I raised up my hands among those who had testimonies and was given the microphone to testify. I was allowed to testify sitting down where I was. I said, “I wanted to thank God because everything he had said in His word was nothing but true; and that as He says them, that’s how He was doing it for me.” It wasn’t really what I said that startled everyone; it was the firmness of my voice as I said it. Most of them had visited me and knew that I spoke but gutturally and indistinctly. But now I clang like a cymbal.
After the service of that day, I went home and couldn’t sit down again much less standing up for the next three days. My waist and backbones were all out of joint and very painful: I had sat for longer than I was used to in the church. However, I still persisted and went again the next Sunday, and continually. By simply meditating and acting on the word of God, I kept on crawling out of my ugly shell by the day. That was how I fell in love with God and His word. I became a word addict.
Having lived through dying places by dependence on the word of God, I am the most enthusiastic person on earth to make an expose of the endless treasures in the word of God. Because I believe that, the supposed impossibilities in men’s life are but sonorous gongs of attestation to the depth of their ignorance of God. And, Fortunate enough, one of my favorite means of communication is writing. I finished my first book as far back as 2019, October 15, to be precise. At that time, I wasn’t even thinking about publishing. I just continued writing other ones.
When I eventually started seeking to publish, it was daunting. In fact, I didn’t find my way, as I didn’t have the money required by traditional publishers. I tried approaching gospel ministers, whom I knew have a publishing press for help. However, I was never even opportune to see any of them much less having their help. Nonetheless, I persisted to search. Eventually I stumbled over amazon kdp. Now I have published my first books titled THE NEW CREATION: Recreated & Fitted to Fulfill Purpose. The second one titled, THE FAITH WAY, is on the way. It will be out in a matter of weeks. Moreover, I still have nine other books to publish. And I’m still writing more.
All my works fall between Christian nonfictions and fictions. Therefore, I will encourage all lovers of these genres to stay hooked for the best.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled “ASCENSION.”
I came across some people who believed that They were so down that there is no way they can rise. Then as i was meditating, the Spirit of God opened the eyes of my heart to see that The Lord Jesus Christ Was dead, and buried – what could be described as the bottom of nadir – yet God was able to take Him to the apex of all heights through a means called “ASCENSION.” That’s to got inspired to share to the world a way to the upper-most even when they are down-most.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well, nothing much unusual apart from the fact that whenever I kick start any chapter or topic of my writing, I must finish it. I can’t leave a chapter or topic I am working on half way to do any other thing; not even to eat (unless I couldn’t finish it in a day). I ensure that i pour out all my thoughts before I stop. And if I want to start a chapter or topic I envisage that I cannot be able to finish in a day, I ensure that I start it when I will have the estimated number of days at a stretch to work on it without engaging in any other activity.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Two authors whose writings have had the greatest impact on my life are Kenneth E Hagin and E W Kenyon.
What are you working on now?
I am working on “ULTIMATUM,” a christian fiction.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I believe that the most effective way to market my books is delivering it to the emails of the readers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be original. You might be inspired by someone; but never try to copy anyone. Even if your style is outre, continue with it; don’t try to follow convention. Human mimicry is the surest path to mediocrity!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Sincerity makes the least person more valuable than the most talented hypocrite.” C H Spurgeon.
What are you reading now?
Faith Bible Study Course by Kenneth E Hagin
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My Bible, Faith Bible Study Course by Kenneth E Hagin, The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, and The Enemy Called Average By John Mason.
