Interview With Author Sunil Punjabi
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an ex-media professional who turned to psychology after my wife got diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder. I studied up to become a mental health professional and also started writing my first book, which is a story of our lives. This is the first book I have written.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my first book is Ctrl Alt Repeat. The story is a true story of the life of a family (my family) in which one person suffers from OCD. OCD is a poorly understood disorder and OCD is a grossly abused term. The book intends to throw light on the suffering to help more people become more aware of the disorder.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Does procrastination and watching Netflix count?
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to name, too few to make an exhaustive list.
What are you working on now?
The other books (plural) that I am currently writing are in a series. Of understanding and dealing with different forms of OCD. My second book (first in the series) is a book on dealing with a type of OCD called Relationship OCD or ROCD. I am planning an August release for the same.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
It is not an advice. It is my method, which worked. Write, read, write, read, write. Read everything. Not just classics and well known authors. Also ‘trash’. Some of the best ideas come from those. The more you read and absorb the writing of others to understand how they write, the more you should be able to hone your own writing skills.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Bleed on paper!
What are you reading now?
The Girl Beyond The Gate – Becca Day
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Book Thief, Dracula, the Harry Potter series, complete works of Sherlock Holmes and a few anthologies
