Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am from sunny Southern California, although life for me was not always so bright. It could have been but I chose a different, darker world. I am now making up for lost time. I am learning as I go and surprisingly at a pretty, rapid pace. I am working on my memoir series “Sweet Melissa” and I have five books out so far. I am working on the final book of the series. That will not be the end of my writing career! I have plenty of stories up in this little brain of mine. With each book I write, I gain knowledge of some sort. My goal is to help and inspire others that anything is possible. I am not college educated by any means, and I barely graduated high school. I have faith in the “Man Above” and I believe that this is my purpose in life. I want to help others and I do not want anyone to go down the road I did. I want to help educate the family members and friends of an addict on how easily someone can get sucked up into the lifestyle. My books are not necessarily “self-help” but I have received plenty of messages from mothers thanking me, stating that my story has helped them understand their daughter/son’s addiction.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Sweet Melissa: Caged, But Free. It is the fifth book of my memoir series. I was inspired to write my series because I have a story to tell and I believe it will open the eyes and help educate others to make different choices as far as drugs and alcohol go. To some it may be simply entertainment, but it is a true story. Things like this happen and once you get caught up in the cycle it is so hard to exit.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have started reading and recording as I go, to help me find a better flow. Hey that rhymes! Yes, I am very silly but sincere!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My all time favorite, Paulo Coelho. I absolutely love “The Alchemist” and I have read it a zillion times.
What are you working on now?
I am working on the sixth and final book of my “Sweet Melissa Memoir Series” and it is getting tough!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have not done all that much promoting yet, but I did get a great outcome my my Awesome Gang promo! I am pretty much waiting to get the final book out before I do much more.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best advise that was ever given to me was to keep on writing! That would be the advice I would give to anyone else.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do not ever give up! Have faith in yourself. Be driven and goal oriented. Stay focused.
What are you reading now?
If I only had time to read! I have snuck in a few audiobooks while taking a bath though. I love memoirs and I will always choose that genre above any other.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have been learning a lot about audio recording lately. I hired a producer to do my first book but I plan on recording the rest myself. I believe I can do it and I believe that the books will expose where I am really coming from.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would like to change this question to, still a reading type question, but I would bring an internet hotspot, my iPad, a solar charger, and of course sunscreen.
