About Synesthesia
Omaira’s postpartum depression, along with a rare condition called synesthesia, allows her to not only smell vibrant colors and taste emotions but also forces her to deal with frequent night terrors in which she murders her beautiful baby girl, Farah, over and over.
The line between dreams and reality is often blurry for Omaira. Disaster knocks at the door when one day, she crashes her old Ford Fusion in a desperate attempt to wake up. The problem? She was already awake this time. Not only that, but her little girl was in the car with her.
Omaira is sentenced to six months at Brandywine, an institution that aims to rehabilitate those with a wide variety of their own mental health struggles. There she meets Cole, a charismatic cult leader.
Cole is many things—charming at times, strong-willed, and extremely willing to fight for what he believes in and wants.
All is not as it appears, for behind closed doors, a doctor performs inhumane experiments on the patients of Brandywine. When Cole’s Adherents discover that their old leader was not transferred to another facility like they were told, but that she actually fell victim to a crazed maniac on a mission, they vow revenge.
Cole may not believe in murder, but his followers—they have no such qualms when it comes to taking a life. The group stages a hostile takeover of the entire place, killing everyone in their path. Unfortunately for Omaira, they just happen to choose the day her baby is there for a visit.
Can Omaira survive the carnage and rescue her daughter? Can she show the world that mental illness is not the end?
