Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a newbie author from sunny southern California. I recently self published my very first novel.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The title of my book is Cutting Deep. I would say life inspired me to write. So cliche I know. But I like to say I hit a quarter life crisis at the tender age of twenty seven and I felt like I lost direction in life. So I started to write about some of my experiences. Before I knew I had written a book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I think it is unusual that my brain decides to go into writing mode when the sun goes down. I’m usually up all night until the wee hours of the morning typing away. And I must be outside when I write. I think all of the static noise has a soothing effect on my brain.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I would say Jane Austen has had the biggest influence on my writing. Her wit and uncanny ability to portray a human being always amazes me, even after reading her books more times then I care to count.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the second book in the cut series, The Deepest Cut.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I would say Facebook has been invaluable. I have had more feedback there than I could have thought possible.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would say to follow your gut. When a few people found out I was writing a book, all of the sudden they were experts on what I should do as far as writing, publishing, legal matters. It’s so easy to get caught up in the excitement of writing your first book, and you want all this advice. But at the end of the day, the only person you should be trying to satisfy is yourself.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have even heard was to always write for myself, not for anyone else. At the time I thought this was just the cliche advice newbie authors are given. But I have to say this advice has come in handy more times than I thought it would. You will always have someone telling you that you shouldn’t write this, its to risky, or it doesn’t work. But again, like I stated above, the only person you should be trying to satisfy is yourself.
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Shocker!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to be releasing my second novel by the end of summer, and to get going on my third.
What is your favorite book of all time?
That’s an impossible question to answer. I have so many favorites. But I would say anything by Miss. Austen would fit or Thomas Hardy.
