Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write fiction and non-fiction Kindle books for Amazon, but have also had non-fiction articles, short stories, and photography published in print publications and online.
I am retired from creating now, just basically spend my time promoting or giving interviews when asked.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest, and final, is a crime drama novel called Starsky and Hutch Next Gen Series, Episodes 1-8. It’s a big what-if concept about the sons of Starsky and Hutch and their lives/cases as detectives.
Their names are Davis Starsky and Kent Hutchinson, and they live dramatic, dangerous, and angsty lives, but the original characters/detectives never appear in the book, for copyright reasons.
Davis and Kent are unique characters, and this book is a transformative work not endorsed by the Starsky and Hutch rights holders.
What inspired it is my fondness for the TV show and wondering what it would be like if Starsky and Hutch had sons that were detectives too.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, nothing unusual, except that maybe I write TOO much, in long stretches. Once I start a book, story, or article, I don’t stop until I finish it. This keeps the flow going. I’m one of the fortunate ones that never has writer’s block, and tons of ideas.
I should say all of this in the past tense, since this is my last book.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Cormac McCarthy, Peter Benchley, Harold Robbins. I go for the sparse, descriptive style that keeps the story and characters moving along. I can do longer, reflective passages, but tend to keep those to a minimum, unless they’re necessary to the plot or character.
What are you working on now?
Nothing. Starsky and Hutch Next Gen is my last book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t really have one, but am having fun finding out. Awesome Gang seems to be a good place to start.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, don’t give up on getting published, and send out lots of query letters. I would also add, don’t just talk about writing. Instead, write. Another piece of advice is don’t try to write like other people. Just write the way that comes naturally to you, and that will be your style.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up.
What are you reading now?
Nothing right now. I listen to audiobooks once in a while.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Nothing as a writer, just guest blogging or interviews as a former writer.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The King James Bible. The Road. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Chalou.
