Interview With Author Tapan Ghosh
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write under the pen name Jashi Bhagat for fiction books and as Tapan Ghosh for non-fiction works., and my journey into writing began during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time that gave me space to reflect and a deep urge to express myself. What started as a personal refuge became a meaningful creative pursuit. At heart, I’m a romantic, and my debut novel, Essence of True Love, is a tribute to the enduring, pure kind of love that leaves a lifelong impression.
I grew up in Burma and later moved to India—two very different worlds that shaped my worldview and appreciation for the universal nature of love and human connection.
Alongside fiction, I’m also passionate about empowering others through knowledge. I’ve authored two non-fiction books: Navigating Success: A Comprehensive Guide for Students Towards a Bright Future, and Perfecting Crucial Soft Skills For Career Advancement: An Important Competency in the Age of AI. Both works reflect my commitment to helping individuals grow—whether in life, love, or career.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Essence of True Love (The Novel Version)
The story was inspired by a heartwarming reunion with a childhood friend after 55 years. That emotional moment brought back memories of the past and filled me with a sense of romance and nostalgia, which I poured into the story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I usually write at night when everything is quiet. The calm helps me focus better, and my thoughts seem to flow more freely. It’s the time when I feel most connected to my story and characters.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The author who has influenced me since childhood is Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay who was a renowned Bengali novelist and short story writer who wrote about the lives of Bengali people, particularly in Bengal, India. His works, often exploring the struggles of village life and contemporary social practices, resonated with readers due to their keen observation of human psychology and empathy for all, as well as a natural writing style. He is known for his sympathetic portrayal of women and their lives, a key element in his stories.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently taking a short break after publishing my novel Essence of True Love just last week. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I’m taking some time to reflect and recharge before diving into my next creative project.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As a new author, I’m still exploring what works best, but so far, I’ve found Facebook book groups and Amazon KDP free promotions to be helpful in reaching new readers. I also plan to try platforms like Awesome Gang, The Fussy Librarian and BookBub (for future promotions). For me, genuine interaction and word-of-mouth through supportive communities make a real difference.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes—just start writing, no matter your age or background. Don’t wait for the “perfect time” or worry about perfection. Write from your heart and stay true to your voice. The publishing world can be overwhelming at first, but take it one step at a time. Most importantly, believe in your story—because if it matters to you, it will surely touch someone else too.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is: “It’s never too late to start something new.” That simple truth gave me the courage to begin writing at the age of 70. It reminded me that passion doesn’t come with an expiry date—and that it’s always the right time to follow your heart and share your voice with the world.
What are you reading now?
I’m not reading anything at the moment, as I’ve been focused on writing and promoting my own work. But I do look forward to picking up a good book soon—something heartfelt and inspiring, just like the stories I enjoy telling.
What’s next for you as a writer?
With Essence of True Love now published as a full-length novel, I’m excited to explore new stories and projects—both fiction and non-fiction. I want to continue growing as a writer, sharing heartfelt tales and practical guides that inspire and connect with readers.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Honestly, I think I would take the opportunity to disconnect and explore the island itself, without any books.
