Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in the Pacific Northwest – I’ve always wanted to write, even as a kid, I’d come up with some (bad) stories. I’ve always loved the old serial TV shows like Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. I cut my teeth on Lost in Space and Star Trek. But I could never really find anything like that to read. So, a few years later, here I am writing the types of books I would have wanted to read when I was a kid. I have four books in my series right now, and am currently working diligently on the fifth.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is The Misplaced Mentor. I wanted it to be a mystery of sorts, but it also had to have sci-fi elements in it . . . plus some humor, because life is too serious as it is already. If my reviews are any indication, I did alright.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
You mean to ask if I have ANY writing habits? I do write, but not every day. I try to get in at least 1000-2000 words in a writing session when I actually do write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
All of them. Seriously, naming any of them is a real task. I love Douglas Adams, Scott Sigler, Steven Saylor, Mark Dawson – all write in different genres, but I do love each of their styles.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the as-yet-untitled book 5 in my series. It’s a bit of a sci-fi thriller with plenty of humor thrown in . . . or at least it will be when I’m done . . .
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have yet to find any sure-fire way to promote my books. I’ve had limited success with Facebook and Amazon advertising, but if you don’t have any promotions at all, you get passed by.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Ever. Every indie author I’ve met has been more than helpful and is eager to see other indies have success. I wouldn’t still be doing this if it weren’t for the support I’ve found in the indie community.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just. Keep. Writing.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading The Last Sanctuary Omnibus by Kyla Stone . . . a dystopian thriller series. Well worth the read.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To. Just. Keep. Writing. And find more ways to get my books out in front of faces.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Now you’re being cruel. How could I ever choose just 3 or 4 books? If I HAD to choose, I would have The Lord of the Rings, The Martian, The Stand (by Stephen King), and possibly Dune.
