About The Chancer
The Chancer is a humorous fictional novel that captures the struggle of pursuing one’s dreams.
He was born to be a star. Pity no one else thought so.
In the west of Ireland in 1989, Donnie McNamara, tired of being the family disappointment, buys a one-way ticket to Tinseltown, to pursue his ridiculed dreams of acting.
Abe Nelson, a fallen Hollywood legend, now wallows in LA dive bars.
Their worlds collide. Abe becomes unlikely mentor to Donnie, and is catapulted into Donnie’s fantastical endeavour.
But will the journey to stardom end in red carpets or red faces?
‘Chance would be a fine thing. But the Chancer is the finest – and funniest – thing of all’ – Olaf Tyaransen

Author Bio:
Fiona Graham is an award-winning novelist and screenwriter, living in county Galway, in the west of Ireland, with her husband and daughter and two dogs, Skye and Guinness. Originally from Glasgow, Fiona moved to a place where it rains just as much as her hometown. She has now lived in Ireland for most of her adult life and draws inspiration from the people, culture and wild landscapes of the West, and is lucky enough to have grown up with the humour of the Scots and the Irish.
Fiona wrote and produced the Irish feature film Songs for Amy, which won the Jury Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking’ at Newport Beach Film Festival, California. Songs for Amy, starring Sean Maguire, was released cinematically in 2014 and is available on multiple global platforms. Fiona is the founder of the production & publishing company Sonny & Skye Productions Ltd.
In 2023, Fiona released her debut novel, The Chancer, which won the Bronze Medal for Comedy Fiction at the Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards 2023. Prior to publication, The Chancer ranked at #2 on The Red List by Coverfly, having reached the semi-finals of two international competitions. Her screenplay of The Chancer also has seven accolades.
When not writing, Fiona enjoys live music, travelling (but not airports), the great outdoors, family life, the sea, socialising, most Gins, chatting (especially combined with Gin), observing peoples’ quirks, reading books and writing to-do lists and then losing them. Fiona doesn’t enjoy clowns, the dark, cellophane, mental arithmetic, or dangling her toes near sharks.
