About The Empire, The State 88 by Steve Lodge
It was a day like any other in London 1988. A young man called Jake makes his way to work and the nightmare begins.
A newspaper headline, a few wrong words and a realisation of a world that should not be.
Can the nightmare be put right?
Is the world on a path to destruction?
Can the best intentions work to help a planet in climate chaos? Or can the actions of good lead to evil? If you had the power to go back and change things, would you? could you, without knowing where it will lead the human race.

Author Bio:
I am a London based writer of sci-fi/alternative history fiction and I also write nostalgic poetry with a fun element in the vain of Danny Baker.
I was born in London in 1967 and come from a typical loving working-class family where I experienced a
great childhood and was probably of the last generation to enjoy the true freedom of growing up away from game consoles and mobiles.
In the summer holidays I was one of those kids who were out playing with mates, making camps and go karts out of old prams.
We didn’t wear watches and so were told to be home when the
street lights came on.
I struggled at school as my imagination was in overdrive but I struggled to express myself on paper. I found out much later in life that I had dyslexia which explains a lot! Luckily it didn’t affect my ability to read.
My favourite book as a child was Charlie and the chocolate factory and at age 9 Star Wars was released. This lead to my love of sci-fi and I could not get enough of TV shows such as Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and of amazing comics like Marvel, DC and the great British icon 2000AD .
On leaving school I worked within the television and music industry for ten years as a record plugger then for the last 30 years I have been a London black cab driver.
Now I am writing my own stuff (thanks to spell check) I try to write from the heart, be that time travel or my poems .
I undertook the writing of this book during covid after a life long ambition to get my imagination on paper .
I like to research true history and write a fictionalised account of “what ifs”.
